Winter - a time for rest - for plants, animals, and people too.

Staying closer to home, moving slower, hunkering down.

The occasional outing brings wetness to my cheeks, wind through my hair and a chill that penetrates my gloves, but the snow and ice are conspicuously absent. But, with two more months of winter - it may arrive yet.

I wonder how animals survive the cold, scarce food, and lack of protection.

Bison somehow get by on scraps of dead grass buried deep in the snow. Wolves track down the weakest of elk and work almost as hard to protect their kill from scavengers. Fox roam far and wide for the smallest of creatures hiding out of sight.

Climate change is changing everything.

As long as the snow shall fall, plants and animals will find a way to survive the seasons. But, will they survive us?
